Colonel Arjinderpal Singh Sekhon (rtd.) speaks about his experience in the US Army and the importance of this case.

“In 1983, I decided to have a fight with the US Army’s policy banning the turban. They were interested in hiring a physician like me so instead of fighting, they just hired me.” “I was one of the lucky ones.”

“When I got the call, I thought to myself, finally, after so many years, someone is doing something. The Sikh Coalition is doing something today that I wish I could’ve done 25 years ago. Can we try to give even a dollar a day to support this work?”

Legal: A firefighting approach. When something bad happens to a community member, our legal steam makes institutions adhere to the rule of law.

Advocacy: Changing the rules of the game. Research is a great example of how we make. After gathering data on community experience, the Coalition was able to push for a regulation, protecting 1.1 million students. If anyone who wears a turban has flown in the last couple of years, your life was affected by the new rules the Coalition instituted.

Education: Changing perceptions. It’s important that the broader community sees Sikhs and thinks good things. They think, ‘oh that’s a follower of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’.
